Airport cyclists saddle up for hospice charity challenge
It takes just 45 minutes to fly from London Luton Airport (LLA) to Amsterdam, but a team of airport employees will be swapping their wings for wheels this week to raise money for charity.
The 34-strong team is aiming to raise £55,000 on its four-day cycle ride, with all proceeds from the challenge going to LLA’s charity partner Keech Hospice Care. The challenge, involving beginners and experts alike, will see the group depart from LLA’s control tower on 12th July and cover 324 miles before reaching Amsterdam on 16th July. It is a test of endurance and a collaborative effort to support a very worthy cause.
Chika Austin, Community Relations Executive at LLA said “The team has been training hard for this event and is looking forward to what will be a tough but rewarding experience. Keech Hospice Care is a charity which does amazing work and we’re very proud to be supporting this fantastic cause.”
Caron Hooper, Keech Corporate Fundraiser, said, “We are overwhelmed by the support from London Luton Airport, their corporate supporters and the cyclists taking on this incredible challenge. We are very proud we have two representatives from Keech taking part too. The money raised from this event will ensure we can provide care for our patients wherever they need it most – whether that be in their home, school, a care home or day clinics. Our nurses enable patients to remain out of hospital and at home with their families, making the most of the time they have left.”
Luton based Keech Hospice Care cares for adults and children with life limiting illness across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes. Keech also provides a range of services such as day care at home for patients to improve the quality of life. The charity also supports the families of their patients through bereavement counselling and social work.
