MedTech.je Helps Implement Winning Project from Digital Health

Hackathon MedTech.je, the new consortium of over 250 technology experts and health professionals providing Digital Health solutions in Jersey, will work with the winners of Jersey’s first Digital Health Hackathon, 2015 HackJsy, to implement their project. Their winning app aims to assist emergency services with locating people in distress. MedTech.je was a leading sponsor and supporter of 2015 HackJsy, which saw islanders develop innovative digital health apps, sites and solutions over a 36-hour event at the Digital Jersey Hub on 25th-27th September. The event focussed on health technology and digital wellness, and was judged by a panel of industry experts including Dr Chris Hare, from MedTech.je member organisation Carmen Health. The Hackathon saw a cross-section of digital and medical specialists, alongside project managers, entrepreneurs and young people, working together to develop Digital Health solutions.

The prize for the winning team was £1000, sponsored by MedTech.je, the prize for second place was £500, sponsored by Co-operative Medical Care, with the team in third place winning 3 FitBit Flex Wristbands, sponsored by KPMG. The results were as follows:

1st Place - It's a Gamble! with Beancon (Beacon), an app to assist emergency services with locating people in distress

2nd Place - Paul Dutot with Health Stage, a real time eHealth messaging ecosystem with mobile integration

3rd Place - The Cowboy Coders with MyGP, a system for enhanced communication between GP and patient Following on from the Hackathon, MedTech.je will work with the winning team to see how their app could be implemented in Jersey. This will complement Jersey’s first responder strategy, launched earlier this year. Matthew Robins, Chief Executive of Webreality and member of MedTech.je commented: “The level of interest and ingenuity displayed at 2015 HackJsy was really impressive. The Island has a growing digital health community, and we’re motivated by the innovative ways in which technology can be applied to answer major healthcare concerns. I’m very glad to see the momentum building at a grassroots level with events such as this one. On behalf of MedTech.je, I’d like to say a big congratulations and thank you to all who participated, and we look forward to seeing the winning app being implemented!”
