Mecel Teams up with Renesas Electronics to Provide Automotive Customers with Superior Bluetooth Connectivity and Reduced Time to Market

As a result of the integration, Mecel’s Betula SDK (Note 1) is now available as a component in Renesas’ Media SDK, which makes it easier for developers to integrate advanced infotainment features in their products and solutions.

Following an market review of the automotive-related Bluetooth solutions available, Mecel’s Betula SDK was selected by Renesas Electronics based on its completeness and ability to shorten time to market for developers. The development kit comprises all the features and functions necessary for comprehensive Bluetooth support, so that all developers need to add is the user interface. The Betula SDK is also backed by Mecel’s global interoperability testing program, based on the company’s close and long-standing relationships with leading manufacturers of mobile phones and other devices. This ensures that the Betula SDK is tested against – and compatible with – the majority of existing and upcoming mobile phones, a further factor contributing to Renesas Electronics’ choice of Mecel’s platform for its SH-2A MCUs.

Mecel’s partnership with Renesas Electronics provides Renesas’ customers with the convenience of a one-stop shop for both hardware and software components for their automotive infotainment products. Developers benefit from the assurance of consistently high Bluetooth performance and reliability across multiple devices and from the Betula SDK’s integration into Renesas’ SH-2A platform, ensuring quality and reducing time to market.

Although wireless connectivity via Bluetooth has been available in high-end vehicles for some time, its use is now becoming more widespread in the mid- to lower-range markets. The integration between the Betula SDK and Renesas’ Media SDK is particularly useful for these segments as they tend to be more cost-sensitive. With guaranteed interoperability testing and a shorter development cycle, the integration helps infotainment technology vendors to achieve their efficiency and quality goals.
