Appeal following stabbing in Fairfield

We are appealing for information following a stabbing in Fairfield this evening (Friday 18 January 2019).

A report was received shortly after 6.40pm that the victim, a 33-year-old man, had been stabbed during an altercation in a car park on Prescot Road and sustained puncture wounds to his back. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A small group of male offenders then made off from the scene on foot.

The 33-year-old victim, and a 42-year-old man who sustained a minor puncture wound to his back, were taken into a nearby restaurant before the arrival of emergency services. They have been taken to hospital for further treatment.

Detective Inspector Sabi Kaur said: "I want to make it absolutely clear that Merseyside Police will not tolerate the use of knives as weapons, and incidents such as this only serve to strengthen our resolve to rid our streets of knife crime and prevent such attacks causing further harm in our communities.

“We will continue to act on any information given to us about who is carrying these knives and will pursue anyone who chooses to bring knife violence to our streets.

"With the public’s help, we can make Merseyside a safer place and I appeal to anyone who has any information in relation to this incident to contact police so we can find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
