Micro-ID Ltd was created by people who are experts in the field of microchip identification to provide a selection of identification implants and readers, scanners for both animal and industrial applications.
For over 20 years microchip implants have been used for the identification of pets, primarily dogs, cats and horses.
In 1996 an international standard (ISO 11784 & ISO 11785) was agreed by the users (vets, animal welfare groups and food animal legislators) and manufacturers which is now used in most countries in the world and in particular is now a legal requirement for both the pet passport and the equine passport schemes.
Micro-ID Ltd is proud to have as one of its directors a member of the ISO working group which created the standard and now supplies ISO microchips in sterile needles with bar codes and provides these with lifetime registration onto the Petlog operated by The Kennel Club or as a full turnkey product to other countries who wish to set up their own registration systems.
The same microchips are used for other animal applications such as protection of wildlife, birds, endangered species and fish but they do not normally need registration as the organisations keep their own records.
Micro-ID Ltd uses the same microchip technology but in different formats such as nails, pegs, discs and many others for identification and registration for both security and proof of ownership. Items such as saddles, bicycles, horse boxes, antiques and household valuables such as hi-fi, PC’s and many other assets are now routinely tagged and recorded on national databases.
Many types of readers/scanners are now available and Micro-ID Ltd offer a range for simply reading the unique number stored in the chip to much more sophisticated reader/data loggers linked via GPS to main databases to interrogate, for example, a horse at an event to ascertain its history both from a proof of progeny but more important to ensure its medical records are up to date.
