It is about time that the industry and the police realised that they have the technology at their disposal to implementa comprehensive security system. Similar to Datatag but  far less costly and is an International Standard.

The RFID tag as used in animals and for farm equipment has been avaialble for the past 25 years and now succesfully re-unites thousands of lost animals with their owners. Anyone can fit the technology and a comprehensive network of scanners is in place to check if the bike or any other item they are buying is chipped before they part with their well earned cash.

The system is available from several suppliers and therefore remains low cost, the scanners as used by trading standards to check horses and sheep can also be used to check bikes in car parks, bike shops and any place a bike is parked.

The database, immobilise, which is free to any one, is used by the police to check for lost or stolen property.
