Nokia Lumia 900 versus the Samsung Galaxy S2
Jun 22, 2012 07:00 BSTThe Samsung Galaxy S2 is due to be replaced soon by the Galaxy S3, but for now it’s the firm’s leading seller and is the one to beat for the competition. As Nokia are making an incredible comeback after losing so many sales in the last few years, the new Lumia range are pitched directly at taking the top spots from the iPhone 4S and the S2. So, can it do it? Can Nokia really make a dent in the inflated sales figures that Samsung and Apple have? Let’s find out…
The Nokia Lumia 900 boasts a 4.3” AMOLED screen that has ClearBlack technology. It has 16 million colours and a pixel resolution of 800 x 480. It means you can pinch to zoom and it has the capacitive technology in the screen which lays two pieces of glass over each other and an electrical charge matches where your finger is placed on the screen to move the cursor. It has a 1.4GHz SnapDragon processor that is one of the fastest on the market right now, and boasts 512MB SDRAM. There is a 16GB on-board storage facility for your all of your files, music and video clips. If that’s not enough you have the option of using the SkyDrive cloud storage so you can free up some space. The camera on the Nokia Lumia 900 is very good and features the irrepressible Carl Zeiss optics, 8MP lens, and has an LED flash. It has a video camera that runs at 720p and 30fps. The 1MP front-facing camera is good for video calls but the quality isn’t great compared to the rear one. And finally, it comes with the Windows Phone Mango operating system which has helped Nokia come on leaps and bounds since they dropped Symbian.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 needs no introduction except that it helped Samsung reach 5 million sales per month and has contributed to the firm taking more than 50% of the world’s smartphone market. The 4.3” screen is perfectly-sized and it has the capacitive Super AMOLED touchscreen that has been the lynchpin in getting those sales. It has a 217ppi and has 480 x 800 resolution, which is quite low compared to others on the market but it has a 1.2GHz processor that is dual-core and has 1GB RAM which is why it all works seamlessly. You get 1080p HD videos, a 2MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-camera. The video camera runs at 30fps, too.
