New Elgin wins Kids Kwik Cricket Festival

More than 120 Primary 5 children took part in the Moray Kwik Cricket finals in Fochabers this week.

All the 12 schools taking part had progressed as top finishers from their local heats held in previous weeks.

Kwik Cricket finals are the end product of a series of cricket coaching sessions that the schools have received over recent months from the Moray Cricket Association, Local Cricket Club Coaches and school staff. The Moray Kwik Cricket Festivals have been taking place since 1999 and has been growing in popularity since.

In the finals New Elgin overcame Bishopmill winning by 22 runs but both teams played to a very high standard and showed great sportsmanship throughout.

New Elgin Primary will now represent Moray in the National Kwik Cricket Finals held in a few weeks.

Thanks were conveyed at the trophy presentation to the Community Dept at Asda Elgin for providing refreshments for the players at the festival, all the local cricket clubs for helping with the coaching and festival organisation, Moray Cricket Association, Cricket Scotland, Active Schools, Sports Development and the parents and teaching staff involved in making this event a success.

The 12 schools in attendance came from the length and breadth of Moray – Cullen, Portessie and Millbank, Applegrove and Alves, Craigellachie and Rothes, Hythehill, Greenwards, Bishopmill, New Elgin and Mosstodloch.
