Moray Council appoints new corporate director

Moray Council’s new corporate director for economic development, planning and infrastructure services is Rhona Gunn, who has held the post in an acting capacity for the past nine months.

A mother of three, Mrs Gunn was previously the council’s head of legal and democratic services.

Brought up in Burghead and a former dux of Lossiemouth High School, she studied law at Glasgow University and worked with a legal practice in Aberdeen before joining Moray Council 18 years ago.

Her areas of responsibility as director include planning, economic development, roads, waste management, environmental health and trading standards.

Mrs Gunn said: “I am delighted to take up the post of corporate director permanently. It is a privilege to take on such a significant role in the area in which I grew up.

“Moray is an area with great natural assets, including our beautiful coastline, vibrant local industries and heritage.

“I look forward to working with our partners and local communities to build on those assets, developing a thriving and diverse economy in which access to good jobs, quality housing and excellent local services is available to all our local residents, no matter where they live in Moray.”

Chief executive Roddy Burns welcome Mrs Gunn’s appointment.

“These are challenging times for all local authorities and I am delighted that Rhona is now a member of the council’s corporate management structure on a permanent basis after having contributed so much in her capacity as acting director.”
