New ASN funding model voted through
Councillors today voted through new arrangements for the allocation of funding for additional support needs in Moray schools.
A new formula spanning the next three years has been drawn up by education officers designed to make allocations more equitable and fair.
Members of the council’s children and young people’s services committee agreed that before the new arrangements come into effect in August discussions are held with parents who have expressed concerns about the change.
The annual budget of £7.5million will be used to provide classroom support to more than 3000 pupils with additional support needs.
A motion from Councillor Douglas Ross to defer implementation of the new formula for a year pending consultation with parents was defeated by 11 votes to four.
The voting was as follows:
For the new arrangements: Cllrs Alexander (Ind), Coull (SNP), Creswell (Ind), Paul (SNP), Reid (SNP), Shand (SNP), Skene (Ind), Tuke (Ind), Wright (Con), plus two school representatives.
Against: Cllrs Allan (Con), Howe (SNP), Maclean (SNP), Ross (Con)
