Public's views being sought on Elgin transport strategy

The public are being asked their views to help shape a new transport strategy for Elgin.

An online survey has gone live today which will enable people to express their opinions and a series of drop-in information sessions will take place later in the week.

The survey, which will remain open until the end of July, can be accessed at http://bit.ly/1Uyz2gd and paper versions are available at the Moray Council access point in Elgin, Elgin library and the Moray Leisure Centre.

The drop-in sessions at the St Giles Centre in Elgin will be held on Wednesday from 11.30am to 2.30pm, Thursday from 11.30am to 4pm and Saturday from 11am to 4pm.

The need for a transport strategy for Elgin was agreed by councillors last month following the scrapping earlier this year of plans for a western link road. It is anticipated that the strategy will be completed by September.

Moray Council transportation manager Nicola Moss said: “To help in the preparation of the strategy we want to know what people’s views are on travelling to and within Elgin, why people travel to Elgin, what issues and problems they face and, most importantly, what improvements they think are needed.

“It is important that we hear from the people who use the roads network in Elgin and staff from the council’s transportation section will be in attendance at the drop-in sessions to listen to what people have to say.

“People’s views matter and the information they provide will help in developing the strategy.”
