Safer Streets returns to Elgin

THE ANNUAL Safer Streets campaign makes its return to Elgin this Friday.

Organised by the Moray Community Safety Partnership, Safer Streets is aimed at making sure partygoers enjoy the festivities in a safe environment and get home safely at the end of evening.

As in previous years, taxi marshalls from Saltire Security will operate in the centre of Elgin, as well as first aiders to deal with any minor injuries.

Police Scotland will have an increased presence as they undertake additional foot patrols and Elgin Street Pastors will also be available on the street, offering support to those who might benefit from it.

Moray Council’s Community Safety Officer, Willie Findlay, said: “Our message to those out enjoying themselves is to have a great time, but to drink responsibly. Getting home safely is the most important part of any night out and shouldn’t be an afterthought.

“Collectively we’re here to offer a helping hand to see safely through the evening and into a taxi after celebrating with colleagues, family and friends.”

Inspector Paul McCruden said: “This partnership is about keeping people safe and making sure everyone enjoys the festivities.

“If you’re out with colleagues or friends, make sure you look after each other and know how you’re getting home before you head out.”
