Gigantic Vending Machine Gives a 'Lott' of Thanks to UK Shoppers

Singing sensation Pixie Lott jumped out of a giant purple vending machine the height of a double decker bus today, surprising shoppers with an impromptu performance. The serenade by the British pop star was one of hundreds of free spontaneous “thank you” prizes vended to shoppers in Kingston, Greater London, as they ‘swiped to win’ on the Nectar Thank You Machine.

Big enough to hold over 1,700 bunches of flowers, 5,300 boxes of chocolates or even two fully grown adult elephants – this gigantic 13ft (4m) vending machine became the centre of attention in Kingston’s Ancient Market when it appeared overnight.  But for one lucky person it was only Pixie Lott that mattered, as she sang her new single as a personal thank-you to Elena Gurtul from Kingston.

Pixie Lott comments; “To see the reaction from the lady who swiped her Nectar card was brilliant, I’m sure they never bargained on me popping out to sing a thank you song for them. I certainly never thought I’d be coming out of a vending machine, but that was a lot of fun, if not a little surreal as it’s like a reverse Tardis… really massive on the outside and small on the inside! One thing’s for sure; it’s going to be hard to miss this when it’s touring the country this month.”

Local shoppers discovered that they could swipe their Nectar card to win a special thank-you from their loyalty card; anything from a bar of delicious chocolate or cinema tickets, to free train travel, flights or trips on the Eurostar.  The free to use vending machine was bursting with potential extra-special ‘thank-yous’… so much so that a few even spilled out onto the street, including a mariachi band, street performers and even a barbershop quartet for some unsuspecting customers.

The massive vending machine was created in celebration of the millions of bonus points Nectar card holders can ‘swipe to win’ throughout October, during a month long ‘Thanks a Million’ promotion.  Following today’s high street antics, the vending machine will start a national tour to surprise and delight other shoppers around the country too.

Throughout the day the Nectar Thank You Machine vended gifts from Nectar and its partners including: Eurostar tickets, easyJet flights, eBay vouchers, Pizza Express gift cards, Vue cinema tickets, Go Ape tickets, Merlin annual passes, tickets for London Ghost Bus Tour, memberships to The Gourmet Society, magazine subscriptions, Songmaker experiences, Photobox vouchers, tasty treats and flowers from Sainsbury’s and, of course, Nectar points.

For those who don’t get a chance to try out the Nectar Thank You Machine there are still thousands of opportunities to win with Nectar Thanks A Million throughout October. Look out for special promotions taking place at the likes of Sainsbury’s, Homebase, eBay, BP, British Gas, Expedia, Virgin Trains and American Express.
