The Orsto X5 Solves the Annoying Problem of Horizon Reflection on Curved Screen Smart Watches

Smart Watches with curved screens are proving a popular purchase by consumers, as they surely do look attractive when seen or even used in an indoor showroom. However, according to many recent tech reviews, when used outdoors the reflection on the horizon of the curved glass screen makes the display very difficult to actually see or read. Which is more than annoying to buyers who intend to use the device all day indoors and outdoors.

“Having carried out comprehensive R&D on wrist based wearable technology for almost 5 ½ years, we have naturally designed, created and tested almost any shape and size of screen that you can think of. Although it was pretty obvious that a convex curved glass shape would reflect any bright light across it horizon, we did still test the idea to its fullest, which included anti-glare coatings. Our findings simply confirmed the obvious, that a convex curved screen will have a high degree of horizon reflection, which in our opinion is totally unacceptable for a device that is intended to be used outdoors or under bright lighting.” Said Paul Gill, Chief Design Engineer, Orsto Ltd, Durham, England.

One answer to this problem is to continue with the tried and tested flat screen design that wrist watch manufactures have been faithful to for more than 500 years. A quick look at current and soon to be released Smart Watches shows that Sony, LG, Motorola, Pebble and Apple all have flat screens.

Another interesting answer is seen on the new Orsto X5 Smart Watch Phone which sports a hybrid curved and flat screen design which totally removes the problem of reflection associated with convex curved screens.

“We chose the curved with a flat top screen design, because we could achieve a nice less protruding curved shape around the wrist, but still offer maximum visibility as good as any other Smart Watch or Smart Watch Phone that has a full flat screen” said Gill.

Orsto are soon to announce the first trade order figures for the Orsto X5 Smart Watch Phones since becoming available for retailer order in January 2015. Orsto describe the figures as spectacular, totally unexpected outside of the company and set to shake up the Wearable Technology industry.
