New Nadja Wedin motifs at Photowall

Photowall is adding three new patterns to its range of wallpaper for summer 2017: Lovebirds, Blues and Purple Vein, created by artist, illustrator and designer Nadja Wedin.

Nadja Wedin is most well known for her delightfully colourful textiles, trays and pillows. Photowall got in touch with Nadja Wedin in 2014, marking the start of their first joint design project.

“What's fun about partnering with Photowall is that my patterns are given a completely new form of expression on a wall as opposed to on a pillow or tray,” says Nadja Wedin.

Nadja Wedin’s artistic wallpaper motifs for 2017 are in fact small works of art in and of themselves, including enchanting birds, butterflies and intricate patterns inspired by the vivid hues of nature, sketched and painted in watercolour.

“My Purple Vein pattern was originally a sketch that I liked and scanned. It then became one of the first patterns we decided to feature in this year’s collection,” says Nadja Wedin.

Nadja explains that Lovebirds was born out of her desire to create a pattern within a relatively limited colour scale, but which still felt vivid.

“The birds in my Lovebirds pattern almost form a heart. My daughter spotted it, and the idea was born. I chose budgies again this time because they are close to my heart.”

The third pattern, Blues, was actually born out of a creative crisis prompting Nadja to put aside sketching for watercolour.

“It was really a challenge because you can’t control watercolour the same way you can control a pen. Chance and a little luck can play a big part in the end result, at least for someone like me who is more used to drawing. So you should never underestimate the crises in your life,” Nadja Wedin concludes.

Nadja Wedin’s three motifs are available in two different colour schemes and can be ordered as wall murals with custom measurements for £31 per square metre.
