In a historic Swedish-Chinese collaboration, the Tongji-Plantagon Research Center opens to tackle global food crisis

Apr 03, 2013 09:58 BST Swedish innovator Plantagon International, pioneer in innovative vertical urban agricultural solutions, is setting up the Tongji-Plantagon Research Center with Tongji University, Shanghai. Under the auspices of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, the Consul General of Sweden in Shanghai Ms. Viktoria Li officially opened the lab during a formal ceremony at Tongji University on April 3rd.

The awards are presented at the Urban Agriculture Summit in Linköping, Sweden. The Dutch organization Innovatie Netwerk is awarded for being frontrunners in developing urban agriculture and vertical farming.

Representing Plantagon in the finals – a live presentation before the Red Herring jury in Los Angeles November 27-29 – is Mr. S. Ramakrishnan, Area Manager, and Tadodaho Sidney Hill, Six Nations Confederacy, representing Plantagon's Board and owners, the Onondaga Nation. The winners will be announced November 29.

The exhibition, Our Global Kitchen will be traveling around the world for around seven years. Plantagon CEO Hans Hassle and CFO Owe Pettersson are present in New York for the opening ceremony on November 13.

In 1999 he founded the root for his idea of raising crops in tall buildings; so called vertical farming.
