Apr 03, 2013 09:58 BST Swedish innovator Plantagon International, pioneer in innovative vertical urban agricultural solutions, is setting up the Tongji-Plantagon Research Center with Tongji University, Shanghai. Under the auspices of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, the Consul General of Sweden in Shanghai Ms. Viktoria Li officially opened the lab during a formal ceremony at Tongji University on April 3rd.

The awards are presented at the Urban Agriculture Summit in Linköping, Sweden. Professor Dickson Despommier, Columbia University, is awarded for his early and assiduous engagement for vertical farming.

For 27 years he conducted research on cellular and molecular parasitism and held lectures and courses on Parasitic Disease and Medical Ecology. In 1999 he founded the root for his idea of raising crops in tall buildings; so called vertical farming.

Plantagon International has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tongji University in Shanghai, on July 4th, 2012. The MOU states that Plantagon and the University will cooperate regarding research on town-planning issues. Video from the signing ceremony at Tongji University in Shanghai.
