Simon said: “After seeing first hand what fantastic work the nurses do at Macmillan Cancer Support, I wanted to give something back to them as a way of saying thank you to them for the great care that they have given to Isabel.

“She is an incredible woman and I know she can get through the chemotherapy again. I am delighted that I am in a position to raise money for these incredible people.”

This year’s race, which is being hosted by Cycle Derby, will start and finish at Markeaton Park, taking in Carsington, Hope Valley, Chatsworth, Beeley, and Crich.

Mr Colton added: “The ride itself is going to be very difficult but I have been training hard and believe that I am going to complete the race in under six hours. I am asking the Derby business community to dig deep to support me."
