Forest Stars And Youngsters 'On The Same Page' In Childhood Reading Project

Following recent reports that reading in youngsters is taking a back seat with the emergence of technology, Cavendish Lettings decided to offer incentives to students at a local school.

Every Thursday for the last ten weeks, a group of children have been taking part in extra after school reading sessions, and last week, the top players turned up to join them, signing shirts and having their photos taken with the children.

With the help of ex-QPR and Hamburg defender Michael Mancienne and ex-Wolves defender Greg Halford, the community spirited team at Cavendish aimed to show the children, that although these football stars have succeeded in a sporting career, both Greg and Michael are very much educated and enjoy reading for pleasure.

Head of English at Elis Guilford School, Alice Matthews, said: "It was so nice to see the boys get such inspiring and positive advice from their role models. All too often in life, reading and sport are seen as things which cannot be enjoyed by the same person. Thank you to Cavendish for making this special occasion possible."

The Cavendish Lettings team met the footballers for property related business a few years ago after they came to the agent for enquiries. Having let with Cavendish since their move to Nottingham, they have become friends with Ali Baylav, Cavendish Lettings' managing director.

Ali said: “We are very community spirited here at Cavendish Lettings and after hearing about the number of children who are not reading enough, we wanted to help. I’ve known the guys for a number of years and we thought it would be a great way to encourage local children to read more.

“They’ve been really supportive and I know that the students have really enjoyed seeing some of their heroes. It is fantastic that these guys can be an inspiration, not just on the field but off it as well.”
