Make costly mistakes matter by Chipping In for Men United

Golfers of all abilities can make their mistakes matter by joining the drive against prostate cancer on August 1st.

Thanks to an exciting new inititive teed up by leading men’s health organisation Prostate Cancer UK, Chipping In invites players to dig deep on 01/08 – signifying the one in eight men affected by the disease.

Generally, mistakes on course are met by despair, but on this day players and their pals can get together and do something great as they save lives while messing up.

Special scorecards, with allotted fine boxes will be available for players to set targets and the monetary menu of mishaps includes lost balls, air-shots, three-putts, triple bogies not to mention shots that go out of bounds or are bunker-bund, with fine amounts set at the start of the round. Money raised will come to Prostate Cancer UK and aid the fight against a disease that kills one man every hour in the UK.

Those keen to swing into action can visit Prostatecanceruk.org/golf for more information and the chance to win an exclusive Men United golf polo shirt. There is also the option to download the special scorecard and a Chipping In poster.

More than 40,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, making it the most common type of cancer among men. Men over the age of 50, the average age of golfers in the UK, are more at risk of developing the disease, making the organisation’s extensive work within the game even more pertinent.

Prostate Cancer UK’s Director of Fundraising, Mark Bishop said: “Golf is a great fit for us at Prostate Cancer UK. From tee to green it offers men that opportunity to talk openly and frankly with their mates outside the shackles of every day life.

“One of the greatest compliments you can give the game of golf is once you think you have it nailed, something pops up to change it all. From a wayward slice off the tee or an unceremonious dip in the water, mistakes happen to players of all abilities – but what if those errors helped make a real difference to men’s health?”

“Sadly this disease is not out of bounds; one man dies every hour from prostate cancer but by chipping in you and your mates can help us fight back.

“Through the stellar work from club captains across the UK and our groundbreaking partnership with the European Senior Tour, our presence is spreading throughout golf and to be able to get players together on August 1st – and beyond – will help us to drive home this hugely important message.”

The European Senior Tour and Prostate Cancer UK recently teed up a groundbreaking initiative for the charity to become the new title sponsor of the Scottish Senior Open.

In an exciting move, the charity will put its name to the high-profile event on the Senior Tour, with the primary aim to raise money and awareness amongst golfers at the Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open, which takes place at Archerfield Links Golf Club for the first time from August 27-29.

With a prize fund of £250,000 the tournament will have a field of 60 European Senior Tour professionals, who will play alongside an amateur partner for the first two rounds before the professionals contest the final round on Saturday, August 29. Ticket information is available via www.europeantour.com.

This summer Prostate Cancer UK is asking Men United to get active and fundraise. People are being urged to search Men United, and do something great with their mates via prostatecaceruk.org/menunited.
