Pubs bring health message to men - Over 750 pubs partner with Prostate Cancer UK

Prostate Cancer UK, the UK’s largest men’s health charity is once again collaborating with more than 750 pubs across the UK to host a series of ‘Men United Arms’ during the Rugby World Cup this September and October.

The pub brands supporting the charity include John Barras, Taylor Walker and Flaming Grill who have already helped raise thousands of pounds for the charity over the last five years. This year they are yet again standing side by side with the charity’s Men United army to reach out to men on their turf.

Six flagship pubs will be transformed into the Men United Arms. Pub teams will be wearing branded Men United t-shirts and have been provided with a range of materials including bunting, beer mats, drip trays and Man of Men pin badges to sell.

Over 750 pubs scattered across the UK will be throwing their doors open to take on a variety of fundraising initiatives for Men United, from BBQ evenings to hosting pub quizzes and music nights, all in the name of prostate cancer.

Owen Sharp, Chief Executive of Prostate Cancer UK, says: “Men United is about reaching men and their families on their own ground where they already socialise, and this partnership with pubs up and down the country has allowed us to do this.

“We are pleased that so many pubs have come on board to do something for Men United, whether it’s a full transformation into the Men United Arms or selling pin badges, every contribution towards the fight against prostate cancer counts for us. We thank the pubs for their continued support and look forward to hearing about the fundraising initiatives planned.”

Brand Manager for Flaming Grill, which has 146 pubs fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We’re thrilled to be supporting the Men United campaign once again, it’s a fantastic charity that our pub teams really get behind. Last year, during the Football World Cup, our pubs helped raise more than £25,000 and this year we hope to smash that target!”

Earlier this year, the charity turned publican to launch their latest Men United campaign, where a Bankside pub was transformed into a pop up ‘Men United Arms’. The Men United Arms provided a focus for the campaign’s ‘keeping friendships alive’ theme – which aims to give men all over the country a reason to see their mates more and do something to help beat prostate cancer.

Since it was launched over 12 months ago, Men United has caught the imagination, and a new zeal for change in men’s health - with more than 230,000 people signing up to pledge support. Men from all walks of life, from footballers to lawyers and politicians to plumbers, have formed a growing army, raising funds to find the answers for the future through research and supporting men now.
