Q-Park rolls out EV charging points across the North.

Partnership with Franklin Energy continues to break new ground in the provision of renewable energy solutions at car-parks across the North of England.

Q-Park is proud to announce new additions to its growing suite of EV charging-enabled facilities. This continued expansion and support for vehicles that use renewable energy is part of Q-Park’s ongoing plan to future-proof parking solutions for generations to come.

With the government’s recent announcement that all petrol and diesel vehicles will be banned from Britain’s roads by 2040, Q-Park has proved to be ahead of the game and committed to supporting drivers as they make the transition from fossil fuels to green energy.

Q-Park already offers benefits such as heavily discounted season tickets for zero-emissions vehicles, and on-the-spot payment options through a smartphone app to ensure users can pay for electricity quickly and easily.

For the last two years, Q-Park has been working with Franklin Energy across the north of England to ensure drivers of electric vehicles can enjoy state-of-the-art charging facilities. In March 2016, they launched the UK’s first publicly-accessible charging point in Liverpool’s flagship City Centre Q-Park facility, Liverpool ONE, and since then have extended the scheme across other key northern cities including Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and York.

With EV charging points already available in 14 of Q-Park’s London locations, the most recent additions bring the total number of EV parking bays available to Q-Park customers to 175 across the UK, with more planned in the near future.

Q-Park is also working to help the environment in other ways. It recently partnered with Green Motion - a low-emissions car hire firm which will soon be operating out of the Edinburgh OMNI Q-Park facility - and similar schemes are planned around the country as part of a continuing effort to bring an evolving service to a new group of customers.

John Denton, Head of Sales and Marketing at Q-Park UK, is pleased with the progress, saying ‘We have been committed to focusing on our green agenda for many years so we’re delighted with this latest roll out. It was good to work with Franklin Energy on this latest roll out which gave us the opportunity to truly lead the market in offering EV charging in key city centres.’

Rob Byrne, founder of Franklin Energy, stated ‘This is a key milestone for Franklin Energy as we deploy the go to charging network across the Northern Powerhouse cities. Q-Park is a prime location partner and from the analysing existing demand across the North West sites, we believe this roll-out to be very timely as plug in vehicle sales continue to accelerate’.
