Q-Park UK introduces EV charging points in Liverpool

Q-Park UK is pleased to announce a partnership with electric vehicle charging supplier, Franklin Energy. Q-Park will be the first multi-story, city centre parking operator offering EV charging points to customers at Liverpool ONE. The partnership will support Franklin Energy’s new low carbon programme in the Merseyside region.

Electric vehicles are continuing to grow at a rapid rate with car manufactures such as Tesla and BMW producing revolutionary, eco-friendly vehicles. As an alternative medium to petrol and diesel, companies like Franklin Energy will be providing renewable energy sources, at Liverpool’s busiest car park, Q-Park Liverpool ONE. Liverpool ONE is one of the UK’s busiest shopping with approximately 30 million shoppers each year.

Two Ensto EVF200-C charging points will be installed adjacent to John Lewis pedestrian lobby within the parking facility. Customers will park and have easy access to the 22KW AC charging points. If customers are not a Franklin Energy members, on site sign up is available using the interactive digital screen which has web access. This pay as you go option will help to make charging quick and easy.

Franklin Energy founder Rob Byrne said, "We are delighted to partner with Q-Park on this forward thinking project and this will form part of our growing network of electric vehicle charging points. The Government is targeting there will be 1.5 million plug in vehicles on the road by 2020 so it's imperative to grow to meet the need the modern day motorist. Last year’s electric vehicle sales more than doubled 2014 sales and plug in vehicles have now surpassed 1% of the total vehicles on the road. Providing this service at Q-Park will help encourage the uptake of electric vehicles as drivers will be reassured they can park and charge at the same time."

It is important for Q-Park to future proof our business and more importantly deliver a growing service to new group of customers.”

Franklin Energy will be installing and operating the charging points in Q-Park Liverpool in March 2016.
