Achievements of young UpRisers is recognised

Greater Manchester UpRising held its End of Programme Celebration at Rochdale Police Station on Thursday. UpRising is a part-time leadership programme designed to open pathways to civic society and create future leaders in political and public life.

The evening was organised to recognise the achievements of talented young people from within the Borough who have taken part in the ‘Find YOUR Power’ programme during the last two months.

This event showcased the hard work undertaken by the participants, including social action campaign videos, while many of the young people shared their own experiences of the programme.

Councillor Sultan Ali, Cabinet Member for Strengthening Communities, said: “The UpRising programme has provided a marvellous opportunity for young people from within the Borough to develop their talents and learn new skills. It is exciting to consider that there could be many future leaders of our community, and maybe even our country, among the group of participants receiving their rewards on Thursday.”

Beth Powell, ‘Find YOUR Power’ Programme Coordinator at UpRising, said: “It’s been a privilege to work with the participants of this programme. They’re bursting with potential, they’ve got great ideas, a wonderful energy and they bring a fresh perspective to social action. This programme has helped participants to identify the ways that they can channel their voice to make a difference. Many of the participants of this Rochdale-based programme have gone on to join UpRising’s Greater Manchester-wide leadership programme, where I’m expecting great things of them.”

UpRising Leadership Programme sessions are held across the local area and include engagement with a wide range of organisations from large private sector businesses to small community groups. For more information about the UpRising Programme, visit: www.uprising.org.uk
