Adult care service receives glowing report

A Rochdale home which offers short-term respite care to help people regain their independence has received an excellent report by the industry regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The Springhill Resource Centre in Broad Lane was deemed to have met all their exacting standards following an unannounced inspection earlier this month.

The Rochdale Council run service helps people regain their independence and confidence following an incident such as a fall or a hospital stay.

A number of different areas were looked at during the inspection, including whether people were getting safe and appropriate care, the quality of staff training and the surroundings.

Residents heaped praise on the home during the visit, telling inspectors: “It’s wonderful, the staff are very good.’ Another added: “I can’t fault the staff, they’ve got endless patience.’

Inspectors also highlighted the fact that the residents had regular access to specialists including speech therapists, district nurses and physiotherapists, and were heavily involved in making decisions about their care.

The CQC was also impressed with the huge number of activities available at the centre and the fact that a robust procedure was in place for sharing information with other key agencies in emergencies.

And it’s not just the experts who are impressed. Families whose relatives have been cared for in the home have put pen to paper in recent weeks to let the council know what a positive experience it was.

One, Eileen Wild, described it as ‘an awe inspiring facility, saying’: "As a family we were truly honoured that the staff looked after her in such a compassionate and professional way. Not only did they look after our mum but they supported us and showed us that without this service we would have been lost and totally devastated but for their caring kindness."

And Susan Taylor, whose mother-in-law was cared for at the centre, said: "During her short stay she received excellent care from staff who are prepared to go above and beyond the call of duty to provide what their residents need."

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Adult care at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Our service looks after people when they are at their most vulnerable so the care has to be top quality. This fantastic feedback from families and the regulator means a lot to us because it shows that we are delivering for our residents and their families when they need us the most.”
