Countryside events this October

Rochdale Borough Council’s Countryside Service has announced its action packed programme of October events.

There really is something for everyone, so take a look, and make sure to book your place if required:

Splash and Sizzle – Saturday 11 at Healey Dell Heritage Café, OL12 6BG, 10am – 1pm

Join Council Rangers and the Friends of Healey Dell for this annual River Clean and be rewarded with a well-earned BBQ lunch. Bring your wellies and gloves and come and get involved!

Meet a Hedgehog – Saturday 11 and Sunday 12, 11am – 4pm

Meet Sue Lewis from the Friends of Rochdale Hedgehog Rescue and, of course, some hedgehogs at Hollingworth Lake Visitor Centre. This is a drop in service so come along when it best suits you.

Forest Fun – Hedgehog, Homes and Habitats – Sunday 12, 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Join NatureEd for this family fun activity in the woods looking at hedgehogs and how they survive the winter months. Come early and meet a real hedgehog from Rochdale Hedgehog Rescue.

This event will cost £2.50 per person and booking is essential as places are limited.

WW1 Shelter Building and Campfire Cooking Event  – Wednesday 29, 11am – 2pm

Join Nature Ed for a woodland den building session with a difference, as they remember the Manchester PALS who set up camp at Hollingworth Lake in 1914. Visit the site and look at archive photos, press releases and postcards, before building shelters and making some tasty wartime campfire food.

This is a free family event as part of Rochdale Borough Council’s Gone But Not Forgotten project. Places are limited so booking is essential.

Hollingworth Lake Handmade Craft Fairs – Saturday 4 and Sunday 19, 11am – 3pm

Guests are invited to browse through a vast array of handmade crafts including cards, candles, teddy bears and jewellery.

If you wish to host a table at either fair the cost is £10, booking is essential and public liability insurance is required.

All of the above events, with the exception of the Splash and Sizzle will start or take place at Hollingworth Lake Country Park Visitor Centre, Rakewood Road, Littleborough, OL15 0AQ.
