Flag-raising celebrates Independence Day of Bangladesh
Rochdale Borough Council celebrated The Independence Day of Bangladesh on Wednesday 26 March with a flag raising ceremony.
The Mayor of Rochdale was joined by councillors and members of the Bangladeshi community to commemorate the country's declaration of independence in 1971.
The raising of the flag of Bangladesh is another event on the Borough’s official flag-raising calendar, which includes marking all Patron Saint days, celebrations, commemorations and other events that are important to the residents of Rochdale Borough.
All new flags fly alongside the Union Flag and Flag of St George, which are flown outside of the Town Hall 365 days a year.
Council leader, Colin Lambert said, “Rochdale Borough Council is proud of the vibrant mix of people, cultures, religious faiths and backgrounds that make our community unique. We will continue to celebrate and recognise the history behind them.”
