Future Alan Sugars line up for Middleton’s first teenage market

Young entrepreneurs with cracking business ideas took part in Middleton’s first teenage market on Easter Saturday.

Around 12 stallholders from Middleton and across Greater Manchester set up shop in Middleton Gardens selling unique pieces designed by themselves including handmade gifts, accessories, greetings cards and garden equipment.

Live street entertainment was also provided by young performing artists including singers, dancers and musicians. There were also fairground rides for the youngsters.

Over 200 people attended the market, which was organised by The Middleton Town Centre Management Company and the Middleton Town Team.

The one-off items on offer also included home furnishings and specially designed balloons, while shoppers could also snap up ‘I love Middleton’ merchandise.

The teenage market is expected to return to Middleton Gardens every two months, with the young people selling between 9.30am and 2.30pm alongside the regular traders.

Chair of the Middleton Town Team, Adam Torevell, said: “Having seen how successful the teenage markets have been in Stockport, we wanted to try something similar in Middleton so we could bring more young people into the town centre.

“Events like this really demonstrate the great creativity and business acumen that our young people have and they really added something to the market by selling crafts and other goods which are not currently on sale.”
