Get with IT in Libraries

Rochdale Borough Libraries are hosting a number of events as part of the annual Get Online Week in a bid to encourage internet confidence amongst residents.

Now in its eighth year, Get Online Week takes place from 13-19 October 2014 and is an annual campaign that encourages everyone to give online life a go. Libraries across the borough will be offering a variety of free taster sessions, so come along and learn some new skills in a relaxed and friendly environment. 

Whether you want to get healthy, get connected, get a job or grab a bargain, you could be doing it all - and more - by doing it digitally. 

The locations, dates and times can be found below:

Explore Your IPad

·  Monday 13, 10am – 12pm - Littleborough

·  Thursday 16, 2pm – 3.30pm – Spotland

These sessions will cover emailing, internet searching, apps and much more.  Bring your own tablet or try one of ours.

Life Online

·  Tuesday 14, 11am – 12.30pm – Balderstone

·  Thursday 16, 10am – 12pm – Alkrington

As part of Get Online week, we are holding an event about life online. See what is available online and how to access services and information.

Digital Skills for Jobs

·  Tuesday 14, 2pm – 3.30pm – Darnhill

·  Friday 17, 2pm – 3.30pm – Heywood

Learn about searching and applying for jobs online, how to use email and get tips on how to write an eye-catching CV. Places are limited and if you are unemployed the Job Centre can refer you.

First Steps to Getting Online

·  Tuesday 14, 10am – 12pm – Milnrow

An introduction to Learn My Way, an online learning package that will help you develop your IT skills. This is a basic IT course that will help you with using a mouse, keyboard and searching the Internet.

Explore your Laptop and Tablet

·  Thursday 16 , 10.30 – 11.30am - Middleton

The session will cover emailing, internet searching, apps and much more.  Either bring your own or try one of ours.

Thirteen of our libraries also offer weekly group IT sessions throughout the year, giving you the chance to master the keyboard and mouse, search online and keep in touch using email. All these sessions are free and our friendly staff and volunteers are on hand to help you take your first steps.
