Parents and Carers Invited to Ground-breaking CSE Play

Parents and carers in Rochdale will have the opportunity to view a ground-breaking exploration of the human stories behind the child grooming headlines through performances of ‘Somebody’s Sister, Somebody’s Daughter on 21 October and 4 November.

The play, which has already run for the borough’s young people aged 14-17, is a powerful drama about a young girl from an ordinary family who gets caught up in the web of a grooming gang.

Performed by GW Theatre Company, the production explores the relationships and issues around child sexual exploitation through accessible and interactive performances, with the audience able to ask the characters questions at the end of the play.

Coun. Donna Martin, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Somebody’s Sister, Somebody’s Daughter has already enjoyed remarkable success with our young people when dealing with a very difficult subject.

“We are now inviting parents and carers to discover exactly why the play generated such a positive response and to ask their own questions about the myths and realities of child sexual exploitation.”

The first performance of the play is on Tuesday 21 October at Hopwood Hall College, Rochdale Campus between 6.00pm-7.30pm.

The second and final performance is on Tuesday 4 November at Hopwood Hall’s Middleton Campus between 6.00pm-7.30pm.

Parents and carers who want attend one of these performances can book their place by contacting the Sunrise Team on 0161 856 1734.
