Press release -

Start Something worthwhile in IT

Rochdale Borough Libraries is teaming up with UK Online and Jobcentre Plus to provide free IT training and assistance to adults in the borough, in celebration of National Libraries Day.

National Libraries Day is on February 8 and aims to promote libraries to people of all ages and backgrounds. Start Something will take place alongside sessions throughout the nation from 3–23 February.

Councillor Peter Williams, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Customer Services, said: “Libraries nowadays are not just for books, there’s a vast range of services on offer including the fantastic IT facilities Rochdale Borough Libraries have. With guidance from Rochdale Borough Libraries and UK Online Centres, individuals can gain the skills and confidence to get started online.”

Matt Watson is a newly recruited volunteer who has been helping people of all ages and abilities get online and he said: “The first few sessions have gone really well, I’ve helped an 82-year-old gentleman send his first ever email.”

The courses are for everyone who wants to get started online, whether it’s for help getting a new job, to stay in touch with family and friends, to do the weekly shop or silver surfers starting out on the internet; the courses will give anyone the confidence to achieve their technology goals.
