Press release -

Successful Day of Action held in Spotland and Falinge

The Rochdale Safer Communities Partnership received praise from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester, following two Days of Action in Spotland and Falinge.

The Rochdale Safer Communities Partnership addressed issues, clamped down on crime and met with residents at the Abbeydale Flats in Lower Falinge on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 April.

Leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Colin Lambert, said: “Getting out into the heart of our communities helps us discover and listen to the issues that really matter to our residents. Following a successful drugs raid the previous week the council but and our partners in the police, Rochdale Borough Housing and community volunteer groups were out reassuring residents and giving them a chance to report any issues in confidence.”

Residents were offered support from the council, police, housing associations and community volunteer groups, which are working together to combat problems that residents face in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour.

Over a two day period, council officers and Greater Manchester Police took to the streets to talk to residents, gather intelligence on issues that concern them and provide practical security and safety advice.

On Friday, Rochdale North police officers carried out free safe plating at the Police Outpost at Abbydale Falinge and Lidl, and Neighbourhood Beat Officers met with members of the public to discuss issues and encourage people to sign up to a Home Watch scheme.

PCSOs removed untaxed vehicles and visited vulnerable and elderly residents, while Rochdale Boroughwide Housing Officers visited the Falinge Estate and carried out a series of walkabouts to address any housing issues affecting tenants.

Greater Manchester’s Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd said: “This Friday and Saturday provided an important opportunity for members of the public to learn more about the work GMP, Rochdale Borough Council and other agencies are currently doing in Rochdale to protect their community. It’s so important that police, councils, other agencies and – most importantly of all – local people work together as that is the key to building safer and stronger neighbourhoods.”

“Rochdale Borough Council should receive particular recognition for arranging this event. They are leading the way in looking at how public services can be made to work for the local community’s specific needs.”
