Developers announce COS is opening a store at Islington Square

The joint venture partnership (JV) between Sager Group Ltd and Cain International Ltd delivering Islington Square, has announced that Scandinavian fashion giant COS is set to join the line-up at the landmark mixed-use development on Islington’s Upper Street.

Popular fashion brand COS will be taking 9,500 sqft of space, located within the listed former post office building at the entrance to the scheme fronting on to Upper Street. Taking the unit on a 15-year lease, the leading Scandinavian brand, which is part of the H&M Group, has enjoyed huge success over the last eight years since it first opened in the UK. The latest store will join COS’s portfolio spread across other prime London locations including Regent Street, High Street Kensington and Covent Garden.

Islington Square will deliver 170,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, 263 high-quality new homes, 108 serviced apartments, and exceptional new public realm. It will open up this part of Islington by creating three interconnected retail streets off Islington’s Upper Street, in the form of two new retail arcades and a tree lined boulevard.

Commenting on the recent lettings, Richard Pilkington, Managing Director at Cain International:“Islington Square will extend Upper Street’s prime retail pitch to simultaneously complement the existing boutiques, cafes and shops on Upper Street and provide a “one-stop shop” for new and existing consumers in the area. COS and Maggie and Rose will form an integral part of the scheme’s vibrant offer, sitting alongside prime residential units and the impressive line-up of leisure names already in place including Third Space and Odeon, providing an additional draw to the standout development.

“Located in one of London’s most sophisticated boroughs, the development will bring the very best of aspirational lifestyle and fashion names to the area, capturing potential spend from its discerning catchment.”

Mark Wills-Williams, Asset Manager from Sager Group said “in creative collaboration with the H&M leasing and design teams we have shaped a unique bespoke unit within the beautiful former Post Office at the gateway to Islington Square. The listed building meets COS’s stringent trading style and personifies the quality of operation we have identified for Islington Square with its trend conscious catchments and a thriving community spirit.”

CBRE has been appointed to act as property and estate manager; Citadines has been signed to operate the 108 serviced apartments, and Family Mosaic will run the affordable housing provision.

Cushman & Wakefield, Orme Retail and Shelley Sandzer are joint retained agents for Islington Square. COS was unrepresented.
