Jul 25, 2012 08:52 BST Christmas at Skansen is more than a month of events and celebrations - from the opening up of the first Christmas market until the fireworks at New Year´s Eve. This year the first market is held on the 24 or November, and the market weekends are November the 24 – 25th, and December the 1 – 2st , 8 – 9th and 15 – 16th with opening hours from 10 am to 4 pm.

Every year a Lucia is chosen by popular vote, and the winning candidate is crowned on the 4th December by a celebrity and then returns to Skansen with her retinue for the traditional celebration on the Solliden stage on the 13th December.

With luck we may be also be able to enjoy Skansen at its winter peak under a covering of pristine snow. The mood of cheerful expectation in these unique surroundings makes for an unforgettable experience!

May 08, 2012 09:11 BST Skansen continues to be one of the most popular tourist attractions in Stockholm, in 2011 Skansen had over 1,400 000 visitors. 121 years this year, the open-air museum was the first one in the world to open in 1891. National holidays are traditionally celebrated here every year but Skansen offer a lot of other fun activities during the year – enough to spend a whole day on site.

During that time a number of houses and workshops are open for visitors showing traditional dinner tables, Christmas trees, Christmas card printing, pottery, glassblowing and much more.
