Press release -

Polish Chief GBAD Specialist to discuss new air and missile defence capabilities in Prague this October

SMi has announced that Colonel Tomas Jukusz, Chief GBAD Specialist of the Polish Armed Forces, will be joining the speaker line-up at the 2nd annual Air Missile Defence Technology Conference in Prague this October.

The inclusion of the Polish Armed Forces in the conference comes at a relevant time, with Poland presenting one of the fastest growing defence markets in Europe. The Ministry of Defence has recently implemented modernization initiatives on its armed forces and military capabilities. As the country looks to combat complex threats posed by a wide range of missiles and to ensure the security of their territory, a particular focus of these initiatives is to boost Poland's air and missile defence systems.

Colonel Jukusz will be presenting a talk exploring how Poland has created an indigenous and layered network to deter threats. In his session, he will be covering the following:

  • an introduction to the new shoulder-launched Piorun missile system into ground formations;
  • key requirements for the mid-range NAREW programme to counter low-flying aircraft and cruise missile threats; and
  • prioritising the WISLA Porogramme for short-range ballistic missile defence.

Colonel Jukusz will be speaking on Day 1 of the conference. He joins a speaker line-up of high-level military and government representatives from nations with leading AMD programmes (including V4 countries Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia) as well as key solution providers developing next generation capability in this vital area of defence.

Air Missile Defence Technology 2017 will bring together air defence operators and technical experts from the military and industry, the event agenda has been curated to provide a discussion on threats to the increasingly complex air space and the solutions available to defeat these threats from the air including missiles, rockets, artillery, planes and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The event programme will also include senior military briefings from the Czech Armed Forces, Polish Air Forces, Hungarian Army, Slovakian Air Force, US Army, BALNET, US EUCOM and the Royal Netherlands Army; as well as key industry presentations from Weibel Scientific, MBDA, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.

The full agenda can be viewed on www.airmissiledefence.com/mnd.

For those interested in attending, there is currently an Early Bird discount of £200 for online registrations made by 30th June 2017.
