Solar Weekend awardwinning for "Best Multi-day Festival" of the Netherlands

ROERMOND, THE NETHERLANDS – The creative festival, Solar Weekend, was awarded best multi-day festival of the Netherlands during this week's Golden Gnome Awards. A crowning achievement for the ten-year-old festival. Said Marcel Mingers, creative director for Solar Weekend: “What a marvelous prize, we are very proud.”

Over the last ten years Solar Weekend has grown from a progressive initiative to the most creative festival of the Netherlands. Mingers feels the term 'festival' is not a sufficient description anymore. “Solar Weekend is more than a festival. For the last ten years we have been building towards a totally new creative community and area. Solar Weekend is a springboard for the creative industry. Thousands of young creatives have built, created and performed at Solar Weekend, which is how Solar became what it is today. This prize is a crowning achievement for all the work they put in.”

The ten-year anniversary deserves extra attention and thusly the decision was made to broaden the creative environment, starting this year. Solar Weekend as an event received a new lick of paint, but also the festival website has been extended to an interactive creative platform. The creative projects during the 2014 edition will receive their own profile on the new community site. The creatives, dubbed Solar Citizens, will receive a Solar Passport.

Mingers: “The website will be just as integral to the community as the yearly festival. Which means that visitors of the site, besides yearly festival information, will be treated to inspiration, creative tips, blogs, movies and more. We are introducing the Solar Blog for example, where talented young journalists will bring the latest news. Over the last ten years Solar has changed from an event into a lifestyle. In the start of August, Solar Weekend will be the central point where everyone meets in the flesh. The website will be the place for visitors to meet 365 days a year.”

Solar Weekend 2014 takes place July 31^st to August 3^rd. The theme for the anniversary edition is Fairytale. All information on the festival and camping will be at the new SolarWeekend.nl website. Besides the musical and creative program also the prices and additional information can be found there. This year sees an upgrade in facilities, to ensure the anniversary edition of Solar Weekend will be the best yet.
