Amazon Alexa coming to Sony’s WH-1000XM3 wireless noise cancelling headphones in January

Sony has announced today that the award-winning WH-1000XM3, WH-1000XM2 and WI-1000X will now be optimised for Amazon Alexa with firmware updates available from the end of January.

Compatible with most smartphones, Sony’s wireless headphones give the freedom to move without getting caught up in wires and provide noise cancelling technology that cuts out daily background noise. Using Alexa on headphones from Sony is simple – just tap the button and ask a question to play music, hear the news and more, and Alexa will respond instantly.

Richard Palk, Head of Video & Sound Product Marketing and Product Planning at Sony Europe said: “We are delighted to add Alexa support to our critically-acclaimed noise cancelling wireless headphone range in January. This demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our customer’s experience on our headphones by letting them use voice to control the music they listen to.”

“We are delighted to collaborate with Sony on listening experiences that combine high-quality sound with the simplicity of voice control,” said Pete Thompson, Vice President of the Alexa Voice Service. "With Alexa built-in, you can easily play music, hear the news, control smart home devices, access tens of thousands of skills, and more.”

In August, Sony also announced Amazon Alexa compatibility on its HT-ZF9 Dolby Atmos®[1] soundbar that enables people with Alexa-enabled devices to play music and control audio on the ZF9.

Firmware updates for the WH-1000XM3, WH-1000XM2 and WI-1000X will be available from the end of January 2019.
