Adrian Moorhouse, Sharron Davies and Keri-anne Payne back charity SportsBall to help next generation

Swimming legends Adrian Moorhouse, Sharron Davies and Keri-anne Payne will be helping talented new-comers hoping to follow in their footsteps on November 27 when they join SportsAid at its annual SportsBall in London.

Attended for the first time last year by the charity’s Patron, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, this year the SportsBall will be back at Supernova in London’s Embankment Gardens where the guests will find out who Britain’s future Olympians and Paralympians might be and how they can help them on their way.

Olympic silver medallist Keri-anne Payne said, “I love the SportsBall, it's such a brilliant night. I get to catch up with loads of my Team GB friends and we get to see the next generation of athletes too! Everyone always has a great time and I can't wait for this year’s.”

Another Olympic silver medallist who will return to the event this year is diver Leon Taylor who said, “The SportsBall has an incredible atmosphere because everyone is there to talk about who’s next. It’s the most relaxed and inspiring sports event I know and an honour to be part of it. If you want to help SportsAid help young athletes, the SportsBall is a fantastic way to get involved.”

Three young swimmers who have already benefited from SportsAid’s support this year are Commonwealth Games silver medallist Thomas Hamer, Youth Olympic gold medallist Miles Munro and European junior silver medallist Rosie Rudin, who said the money she received from the charity gave her peace of mind.

Rosie added, “It meant I could purchase a racing suit to keep me on a par with my competitors. I was also able to obtain the services of a physiotherapist when needed and had the chance to have sports massages which I have never had. Our biggest cost by far though is petrol as we live quite a way from the training venues.”
