Celebrities make May purple in support of stroke

Hollywood’s Stanley Tucci, Gavin & Stacey actress and writer Ruth Jones MBE, and BBC Chef Rachel Khoo are among a host of celebrities encouraging everyone to make May purple for the Stroke Association’s Action on Stroke Month.

The charity’s annual Action on Stroke Month aims to raise awareness of stroke and celebrate the achievements of stroke survivors.

Ruth Jones said: “I can’t imagine how devastating it must be to experience a stroke. It affects so many people’s lives, and that’s why the work of the Stroke Association is so important. Making May purple in Action on Stroke Month is a brilliant way to show your support and raise funds to help stroke survivors conquer stroke.”

Rachel Khoo and Stanley Tucci, along with best-selling authors and cooks Hemsley and Hemsley, and Great British Bake Off winner Frances Bennett, have provided exclusive purple recipes for tempting purple goods to bake this May, including a berry swirl cheesecake and blueberry pie.

TV gardeners Christine Walkden and Chris Beardshaw have learnt their support by advising green-fingered fundraisers how to get planting for dazzling purple displays in the garden, while journalist, TV presenter and author Anna Richardson is taking on a purple challenge by pedalling her way across London as she takes part in the Stroke Association’s Thames Bridges Bike Ride on Sunday 10 May.

Rachel Khoo said: “I'm really delighted to be backing the Stroke Association's fab Action on Stroke Month when we can all make May purple for stroke.

“I was shocked to learn that in the UK, someone somewhere has a stroke every three and a half minutes, and anyone can have a stroke including babies and children. That's why we all need to get behind this fantastic charity and wear, bake and plant all things purple this May. Together we can conquer stroke.”

There are a wealth of ways to make May purple for stroke, such as wearing it purple, planting it purple and baking it purple. Visit www.stroke.org.uk/strokemonth to find out more and get involved.
