Chandlers Ford Stroke Support Group invites community to Christmas party

The Chandlers Ford Stroke Support Group are hosting their Christmas party at 2pm on Thursday 18 December, at the Velmore Centre, Chandlers Ford, and are inviting people from the local area to join in the festivities and learn more about the group.

The group, which is run by the Rotary Club of Chandlers Ford and Itchen Valley and supported by the Stroke Association, will see its first anniversary in January. The Christmas party will celebrate the group’s achievements during the past year, as well as welcoming potential new members.

Anyone who has had a stroke, or is a carer or friend of a stroke survivor, is invited to come along to the Christmas party to find about more about the service and meet the group’s current members and volunteers.

The Chandlers Ford group provides support within the community for stroke survivors and their carers, and the opportunity to meet others who have has similar experiences. Alongside social and recreational activities, the group also provides communication support for people with Aphasia.

Group organiser Mike Scrivener said: “It’s been a fantastic first year for the Chandlers Ford Stroke Support Group, and we want to celebrate by inviting everyone to the Christmas party. It’s a great opportunity to come along and find out what support the Stroke Association can offer.

Garry Jopling Area Manager for the Stroke Association added: “Stroke can happen in an instant, and groups like the Chandlers Ford Stroke Support Group can be a lifeline for both stroke survivors and their carers. There are nearly 32,000 stroke survivors in Hampshire alone. If you’ve been affected by stroke, come along to meet us on 18 December as we look forward to another great year with the group.”
