Local runner raises funds to help conquer stroke

Mariola Pisarkiewicz, 33, from Moulton, has raised over £585 for the Stroke Association after completing the adidas Silverstone Half Marathon on Sunday 12 March.

A personal trainer, Mariola was inspired to raise funds to help conquer stroke after her cousin had a stroke in Poland last year and sadly passed away. Several of her friends have also been affected by stroke, further spurring Mariola on to support the charity.

Mariola said: “When I lost my cousin last year, I travelled to Poland for the funeral and was determined to help raise funds to support people who have been affected by stroke. I signed up for the Stroke Association’s national awareness month, Make May Purple, last year and dyed my hair purple, which raised over £700! After receiving lots of support from the charity, I knew I wanted to do more. When I received an email to sign up for the team in the adidas Silverstone Half Marathon, I knew I was ready for the challenge.

“The run itself was amazing. I had my little girl Amberlee with me on the day and I was determined to cross the finish line so I could share my medal with her and make her proud.”

Lucy Burnip, Community and Events Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “Taking part in a half marathon is a fun and inspiring experience, but there’s a serious purpose behind it. Stroke is a leading cause of disability in the UK. At the Stroke Association, we want to be there for everyone affected by stroke, so we are very grateful to Mariola and all of our runners, for helping us raise the funds to help make this a reality.”

The Stroke Association is the UK’s leading stroke charity which campaigns to improve stroke care; supports people to make the best recovery they can; and funds ground-breaking research to change the lives of people affected by stroke.
