Wirral Stroke Survivor Officially Opens Vision Express Store

A 62-year old stroke survivor was guest of honour as the Vision Express store in Heswall was official opened on Saturday. Julian Fisher, from the Wirral, cut the ribbon to officially unveil the refurbished store’s new facilities and equipment, which will help it deliver an individual and thorough vision care service to the local community.

Pictured is Julian with (l-r) Vision Express staff Abby Cottrell, store manager Katja Cheesman and Dana Bailey. Julian is also photographed having an eye test with Katja Cheesman.

Julian was a special guest representing the Stroke Association, which is a charity partner of Vision Express. A former deputy head teacher at Brookdale Primary School, Julian had a stroke just three months after he had retired from his role at the school, in 2011. Despite the condition leaving him with weakness in his left side, Julian is an enthusiastic ambassador for the Stroke Association, raising awareness of the condition and the work of the charity. He also supports the office team in Birkenhead, liaising with the Stroke Association’s clients.

Commenting on the opening, Julian said: “I was delighted to attend the Heswall Vision Express store opening and to help raise awareness of stroke, which can have a huge impact on someone’s life. The Vision Express team was very keen to support the work of the Stroke Association.”

The opening marks the store becoming part of the Vision Express family, following the company’s acquisition of Conlons Opticians, which brings the total number of stores nationwide to over 390. The former Conlons store has traded in Heswall for 30 years.

Vision Express store manager Katja Cheesman, says: "We’d like to thank Julian for helping us officially open our new store and would also like to thank all our customers for their patience while the store has been closed during refurbishment. We hope they are impressed with with the comfort and first class facilities of our fantastic store.

"Our Heswall team has many years of experience in the optical industry and we’re proud that over years of trading in the town we’ve built a loyal following of customers. We look forward to continuing to provide a first class eye care service to the people of Heswall."
