Open registration to the Archbishop’s meeting on children and young people

On 16–17 November this year, Archbishop Anders Wejryd is hosting Children and Young People – the Archbishop’s Meeting 2012 in Uppsala. All interested parties can now register to take part via the meeting’s website, www.svenskakyrkan.se/abmote2012.

The meeting will deal with how the Church of Sweden, together with others, can work to ensure children’s rights. The subject areas to be focused on include children’s health, schooling and culture. Participants include Minister for Children and the Elderly Maria Larsson, Minister for Integration Erik Ullenhag, Ombudsman for Children Fredrik Malmberg, BRIS (Children’s Rights in Society) Secretary-General Kattis Ahlström, and the Director-General of the Swedish National Agency for Education, Anna Ekström. Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria will be attending.

Children and Young People – the Archbishop’s Meeting 2012 is structured around three themes taken from the Convention on the Rights of the Child:

• Children’s strength and ability
• Children in vulnerable situations
• The child’s right to spiritual development

All interested parties are welcome to take part in the meeting, which is expected to bring together around 1,100 people at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress. Special invitees include employees and elected representatives from the Church of Sweden’s parishes and dioceses, along with representatives of authorities, children’s rights organisations and other organisations.
