The UK tax regime – still favourable but getting tougher for Swedes living in the UK

Since the introduction of the new non-domicile legislation in the United Kingdom in 2008, Swedes are increasingly discussing whether or not to stay in the country whether it involves moving back to Sweden or to other countries. “The UK tax regime is still favourable for Swedes living in the UK but is getting tougher”, says Staffan Andersson, Head of Tax at Erik Penser Bankaktiebolag.

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK is hosting a seminar on the topic of the UK tax regime on Wednesday 17 March, together with Erik Penser Bankaktiebolag and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

“It is important to inform Swedes living in the UK about the implications of the new legislation and how the rules affect individuals and what considerations need to be taken into account if considering a move back to Sweden or to another country”, says Annika Wahlberg, Managing Director, Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK.

The event hopes to shed light on the extended Swedish 10-year rule, the Swedish Tax Agency and expat assets and proper planning in connection with a possible move back to Sweden. The upcoming national election in Sweden will also be discussed, and what implications the outcome might have.
