Doncaster Rovers and Virgin Trains in a league of their own with new shirt sponsorship deal

Doncaster Rovers have further cause for celebration following the club’s promotion to Sky Bet League One after securing a new shirt sponsorship deal with Virgin Trains.

Earlier this year, Virgin Trains confirmed that it would sponsor the club’s training kit and the company has now confirmed it will be the official shirt sponsor of Doncaster Rovers for two seasons. Virgin Trains has long been a supporter of the club and its iconic logo will now feature on the kit. With 55 trains a day to and from Doncaster to London, Virgin Trains has an important role in supporting the local community and connecting fans, players and businesses together.

The shirt design includes key moments from Rovers’ past 10 years emblazoned on the traditional red hoops, which have been chosen by supporters and form a key part of the design on the home shirt. The red hoops of the home shirt pay tribute to special dates, games and players that tell the story of Doncaster Rovers and the journey the club has been on over the years. The away shirt features a hoop for each year at the Keepmoat Stadium in bright green.

Andrew Whitham, head of commercial affairs for Club Doncaster, said: “We are pleased to be working with such a well-known company like Virgin Trains which is a great supporter of the local area. This partnership builds on our promotion back to League One and is another sign of the development of Club Doncaster.

“We marked the 10th anniversary of our move to the Keepmoat Stadium this season, so I’m delighted we could celebrate the best moments of the past decade as chosen by the most important people at the club – the fans.”

Paul Smith, regional commercial manager for Virgin Trains on the east coast, said: “We’re really proud of what Doncaster Rovers has achieved over the last season and are excited to be part of their promotion story.

“We love to play a role in helping and celebrating the success of local people and communities on our route, and this shirt sponsorship is a great opportunity to show just how important Doncaster is to us. We hope the club will continue to go from strength to strength in their new kit, as they celebrate ten years at the Keepmoat Stadium and their return to League One.”

Supporters will be able to see the shirt displayed at Doncaster Station over the next week as well as read the memories from the last ten years.

The shirt will be available for Rovers fans to pre-order from the 1st June. The club will release more details of how to do this closer to the time.

Rovers season member ships for 2016/17 are on sale now, and available from the Club Doncaster Box Office on 01302 762576 or tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.

The combined network connects some of the nation’s most iconic destinations including Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, York and London.

Virgin Trains is committed to delivering a high speed, high frequency service, offering shorter journey times, more comfortable travel and excellent customer service. Customers consistently rate Virgin Trains as one of the top long-distance rail franchise operators in the National Rail Passenger Survey (NRPS) commissioned by industry watchdog, Transport Focus.

On the East Coast route, £140m is being invested to create a more personalised travel experience. We have already invested £21m to completely revamp our existing fleet and customers can now benefit from 42 additional services (22,000 extra seats) per week between Edinburgh and London. 2018 will see the introduction of completely new Azuma trains being built in the UK by Hitachi.

The West Coast route has a proud record of challenging the status quo - from introducing tilting Pendolino trains, to a pioneering automated delay repay scheme and becoming the first franchised rail operator to offer m-Tickets for all ticket types.
