This summer, bargain hunting customers will once again see the arrival of the much-anticipated Virgin Trains three-day Summer Seat Sale. From Tuesday 5th July to Thursday 7th July, prices on First and Standard class seats will be slashed on the rail operator’s West Coast route.

With huge discounts for travel betweenSaturday 23rd July and Sunday 4th September, there’s never been a better time to take the train for a classic British holiday – particularly with the pound at thirty-year lows, making trips abroad more expensive. Escape for less in style and comfort, whether it’s to Wales and the seaside, Penrith and the Lakes, to visit family and friends, or to explore some of Britain’s greatest cities.

Discounted fares include the below Advance Single tickets:

    • London to Manchester/ Standard Class; originally £21, now £10
    • London to Liverpool Standard Class; originally £16, now £10
    • London to Birmingham Standard Class; originally £8, now £4
    • London to Glasgow Standard Class; originally £30, now £14
    • London to Manchester/Liverpool First Class; originally £42, now £30
    • London to Birmingham Standard Class; originally £25.50, now £17

To celebrate its Summer Seat Sale and bring a taste of the British summer to its customers’ journeys, Virgin Trains will be installing a giant flower wall of red peonies and sweet williams at Birmingham New Street station. Virgin Trains will be running a competition to find the best selfie taken against the flower wall with the chance of winning a Family Ticket. To enter, people simply need to take a selfie with the flower wall, tagging @VirginTrains and use the #summerseatsale.

About Virgin Trains

Stagecoach and Virgin are working in partnership to operate the East Coast and West Coast inter-city routes under the Virgin Trains brand. Together, they are on track to revolutionise rail travel across the UK.

The combined network connects some of the nation’s most iconic destinations including Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, York and London.

Virgin Trains is committed to delivering a high speed, high frequency service, offering shorter journey times, more comfortable travel and excellent customer service. Customers consistently rate Virgin Trains as one of the top long-distance rail franchise operators in the National Rail Passenger Survey (NRPS) commissioned by industry watchdog, Transport Focus.

On the East Coast route, £140m is being invested to create a more personalised travel experience. This includes a major fleet revamp, smarter stations and exciting new routes. From May 2016, there will be 42 additional services (22,000 extra seats) per week between Edinburgh and London. 2018 will see the introduction of completely new Azuma trains being built in the UK by Hitachi.

The West Coast route has a proud record of challenging the status quo - from introducing tilting Pendolino trains, to a pioneering automated delay repay scheme and becoming the first franchised rail operator to offer m-Tickets for all ticket types.
