Newark train station getting makeover

Works to improve Newark station begin next week (25th September) with completion expected by the end of January 2018.

Virgin Trains, which operates Newark station, has planned a series of improvements to improve access to the station and ease congestion at the station during peak hours. The train operator is warning customers that they can expect fewer parking spaces at Newark Northgate station until the end of January as the works take place.

Changes to the station include creating a new bus stop with digital displays, and relocating the entrance to the NCP cark park, short stay car park and taxi rank to alleviate traffic at the station and improve pedestrian access.

Natasha Wilding, General Manager for the central route of Virgin Trains on the east coast said: "We know that Newark Northgate can be a very busy station and that's why we're pleased to be making improvements to the station as part of our £140M investment into the route. We would like to thank our customers in advance for their patience while we give Newark Northgate the attention it deserves."

There will be a phasing of the work to ensure that the station remains operational throughout. This means that around 50 fewer spaces will be available at any one time in the car park so some drivers may need to make alternative parking arrangements.

Customers are also being warned that the car park will be closed entirely the weekends of the 25th – 26th November and 2nd – 3rd December to allow resurfacing to take place. Alternative parking at the NCP car park is available nearby.
