Press release -
Five-star service at Murray's hotel
Andy Murray has won his fair share of five-set thrillers, and now he has another reason to celebrate with the news that his hotel has been awarded official five-star status by VisitScotland.
As Murray continues his title defence against Blaz Rola at the All England Club today (June 25), the Cromlix in Perthshire – near the Scottish tennis star’s home town of Dunblane – has been graded as a five-star Country House Hotel by the national tourism organisation.
VisitScotland has a world-leading Quality Assurance scheme, with each hotel, bed & breakfast and visitor attraction subjected to a rigorous and stringent advisory and inspection visit before grades are awarded.
When an establishment in the VisitScotland Quality Assurance Scheme undergoes a change of ownership, it is automatically subject to another advisory and grading visit, with marks given for everything from the standard of its hospitality and service, to the quality of its décor and toilets.
There are currently 47 five-star hotels in Scotland, only five of which are in the Country House Hotel category.
Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, said: “Much like Andy Murray on the tennis court, a five-star grading from VisitScotland means a hotel has reached outstanding, world-class standards across the board. Coming from nearby Callander, I have watched Andy’s career with great interest and I would like to congratulate him and his team at the Cromlix on this fantastic achievement. And, on behalf of everyone at VisitScotland, I would like to wish Andy the very best of luck in his title defence.”
Andy Murray said: “It’s great news that Cromlix is now officially a five-star hotel. We’ve all worked hard to try and restore the hotel to its former glory and importantly, make it a nice place to go for the local community and beyond. We’ve had some great feedback so far from guests and we’ll continue to make adjustments and improvements.”
Set in 34 acres of secluded woodlands and garden grounds, with its own chapel and house loch, the 15-bedroom Cromlix re-opened in Spring 2014. For more information on the Cromlix, visit www.cromlix.com
