Press release -

Glasgow welcomes the world 'ninja' style with budget accommodation

VisitScotland has welcomed the news that Campingninja, a leading provider of temporary campsites at World Class sporting events, is to bring its successful blend of affordable accommodation and great sporting atmosphere to Glasgow.

The company will pitch up at two sites near the city, between July 21 and August 4, to help ensure that everyone is within reach of this summer’s sporting action.

As Scotland prepares to welcome the world, VisitScotland chairman Mike Cantlay has personally expressed his delight at Campingninja’s own decision to offer camping sites of up to 1,000 pitches.  These include pre-pitched options for camping novices, those without their own equipment and those wishing to use public transport.

The average cost of the accommodation is from £18 per night for adults (half price for children) and pre-pitched tents are also available for between 1 to 8 people.

Both sites are based at community sports clubs and will raise substantial funds for grassroots sports.  One site is a short walk from Dumbreck rail station, six minutes from Glasgow Central, while the other is near Uddingston rail station, only 11 minutes from the Emirates Arena, Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Celtic Park.

As hotel accommodation becomes more of a challenge to find as the Commonwealth Games moves closer, VisitScotland sees the affordability of the Campingninja offer as a great way for everyone to experience Glasgow this summer.

VisitScotland Chairman Mike Cantlay said: “This year is about every visitor having the experience of a lifetime when we welcome the world for the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and the year-round programme of Homecoming Scotland events.

“Value for money is a major priority for visitors, and important for everyone in our industry if we want our visitors to return.

“I’m delighted that Campingninja will be making that experience affordable to everyone in and around Glasgow this summer, and also bringing the festival atmosphere that contributed so much to the success of the Olympics in London.”

Campingninja say they are delighted with initial sales at their two public sites and may make a third available based on demand.

During the 2012 Olympics, Campingninja provided 13 temporary sites hosted more than 8,000 eager campers and workforce contractors from across 34 nations.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world are set to visit Glasgow for the Games, meaning huge demand for affordable accommodation

Geoff Vaughan, Managing Director at Campingninja said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to Camping in Glasgow!  There is so much excitement around the events in Scotland this year that we are now considering opening a third site to meet demand.  We really can’t wait to welcome all the campers to our sites, we have lots planned to make it an incredible stay for everyone.”
