Late deals: Accommodation and tickets available for the Ryder Cup Gala Concert in Glasgow on 24 September
Hot on the heels of the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland is preparing to host another major sporting event - The 2014 Ryder Cup (23 to 28 September).
As a prelude to golf tournament itself, Glasgow will host The 2014 Ryder Cup Gala Concert on Wednesday 24 September at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow so whether you’re a golf or music fan, why not book a short break to Glasgow and enjoy this spectacular event?
Tickets and accommodation are still available for this music and sporting concert where the European and US Ryder Cup teams will head a showpiece in a collaboration between top music acts including Nile Rodgers, Texas, Amy MacDonald, and Twin Atlantic alongside Scotland’s major arts organisations– Scottish Ballet, National Theatre of Scotland and Scottish Opera. The audience will also be introduced to the European and USA Teams, meeting for the first time live on stage.

Billed as being The Brits meets The Proms, four of Scotland’s national arts bodies, Scottish Ballet, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, National Theatre of Scotland and Scottish Opera will perform for the first time alongside contemporary acts including Nile Rodgers, Jake Bugg, Texas, Amy Macdonald, Twin Atlantic, Nina Nesbitt, Eddi Reader and Midge Ure, creating an evening of unique collaboration and performance pieces. Select solo performers will also be backed by a house band led by Mike Stevens, who is musical director for Take That and Gary Barlow and writes with Annie Lennox.
Curated by celebrated Creative Director Kim Gavin, whose portfolio includes the London 2012 Closing Ceremony, Take That Progress Live Tour (2011) and the Concert for Diana (2007), the evening will see flashes of fashion, bespoke short films and never-before-seen live performances that will build the tension and excitement around The 2014 Ryder Cup.

- 2014 is the year of Homecoming Scotland, which sees the country celebrate a year of brilliant moments with a programme of spectacular events, one of the most iconic of these is The 2014 Ryder Cup. This September, Scotland welcomes the world, as the 40th Ryder Cup takes place at the world-famous Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course.
- Practice day tickets are still available for Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 September. On Tuesday, visitors to Gleneagles are encouraged to wear a piece of tartan to welcome the players to Scotland – this will be known as Tartan Tuesday!
- Scotland will also play host to a variety of other golfing events next year such as the Women’s British Open at Trump Turnberry (30 July - 2 August), the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Gullane Golf Club, East Lothian (9-12 July), the Open Championship at St. Andrews Old Course (12 – 19th July) and the Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Golf Link, Ayrshire (28 – 30th August).
